Local Farms

Wexford is famous for its strawberries which can be purchased fresh from the farms on every roadside during the season May – July. Wexford also grows the best potatoes in Ireland. Potatoes still form an important part of the Irish diet and one of our neighbours grows, (we think), the best potatoes of all, and you can purchase these direct from their farm. A visit to Ballycross Apple Farm is also highly recommended. It's open 2 - 6 pm Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Mondays only. There is a selection of animals, which are free to view, (Shetland ponies, donkeys, rabbits, ducks, pigs, unusual fowl and more). They also have a coffee shop, (opening onto landscaped courtyard), and you can purchase superb apples grown on their farm, their own apple juice as well as assorted foodie items. There is also a gift shop. At Halloween they sell their own pumpkins and have lovely displays of carved pumpkins. Ballycross Apple farm is in Bridgetown, only a few minutes drive from Kilmore Cottage, and their location is mapped on their website. |
